Forest Walkers

Primitive Humans

ForestWalkers-Additional2-680px

Meet the Forest Walkers, a clan of stone-age men that were conceived by Adrian Wood in his long running fantasy campaign. Distinctively dress in skins and antlers, armed with stone weapons, the Forest Walkers live a simple, pastoral existence in the icy far north. They have been known to build crude, round huts but usually roam their territories hunting and gathering. They are a spiritual people who worship their ancestors and a cryptic god they refer to as the Earth Mother.

Their Shaman are their channel to both God and ancestors through dreams and visions and play a big part in the making of any decision. They keep bison, the one aspect of their society that shows them to be culturally more advanced than they appear at first glance. Their bison are their “dream companions” and a source of milk, the only product they will ever take from the sacred or totem animal. Forest Walkers are not an especially warlike clan but will fight. Their weapons are of poor quality and made from what ever is at hand – stone, wood, bone and sinew – but they are still deadly.

Society is relatively simple. At the head is a chief who is largely unrecognisable from the other grown men of the clan. An elite cast of warriors are selected for their strength and prowess and these might wear crude armour fashioned from wooden splints. The life of a woman in barbarian society is hardest of all. From before puberty, young women act as scouts for the tribe when on the march, and as skirmishers for the warriors in times of war.
