Every month the RPG Bloggers Network runs a carnival, a collection of articles on a shared theme. At the start of the month, a new web site in the network hosts the event, sets the theme and starts the ball rolling. Bloggers across the network then follow suite, posting their own take on the topic until finally, at the end of the month, the host posts a collection of links to all the articles in the carnival.
Every month the range of articles is impressive. Some are standalone articles, some are done in response to other articles but they are all focused on the central theme. This spread of opinions and approaches is always enlightening and is a great example of how the network can co-operate to produce something greater than the sum of its parts.
This month’s theme is Steampunk & Klokwerks, hosted by Mad Brew Labs.
Many considered the Victorian and Edwardian eras are prime time periods for Steampunk because steam engines were in use. The fashion of those eras are iconic imagery that many Steampunk creations use. Where Steampunk has come to represent the setting of anachronistic tech, Klokwerks is limited to using clock escapements, weights, and counter-balance to create inventions.
I plan to get my article done in the next few days and watch out for others around the network.
Next month it will be 6d6 Fireball’s turn to host the carnival. Now I’m not going to reveal the subject just yet but it will about a big name RPG that has an ampersand in its title.
